Our Most Recent Visits:
The latest visit, on 8th June, was to Greenwich, to see in particular Queen’s House and the restoration of The Painted Hall ceiling at The Old Royal Naval College. The photos below show the Queen’s House Gallery; members inspecting the restoration of Sir James Thornhill’s ‘The Triumph of Peace and Liberty over Tyranny’ from ceiling level in The Painted Hall; and The Tulip Staircase at Queen’s House.
Our first visit of the season was on 11th April 2017, to Royal Holloway College, including The Founders’ Building, one of the most spectacular university buildings in the world, used during the filming of Downton Abbey.
The last visit of last year was on 8th September 2016, when we visited Kelmscott Manor in Gloucestershire, home of William Morris and other members of the Arts & Crafts movement. Members were greatly impressed by the quality of the lecture which was provided and subsequent guided tour.
Earlier in the summer we visited Kenwood House:
